When a conductive medium flows through, an induced voltage will be generated. Two electrodes inside the pipe measure the induced voltage generated. The measuring pipe is electromagnetically isolated from the fluid and the measuring electrode through a non-conductive lining (rubber, Teflon, etc.).

1) The sensor structure of the electromagnetic flowmeter is simple, and there are no movable parts in the measuring tube, nor any throttling parts that hinder the flow of fluid. Therefore, when the fluid passes through the flowmeter, it will not cause any additional pressure loss. It is one of the flow meters with the lowest energy consumption in operation.
2) It can measure the flow of dirty medium, corrosive medium and suspended liquid-solid two-phase flow. This is because there are no obstructing flow parts inside the measuring tube of the instrument, and only the inner lining and electrode of the measuring tube are in contact with the measured fluid, and the material can be selected according to the nature of the measured fluid. For example, with polytetrafluoroethylene or polytetrafluoroethylene as the lining, various corrosive media such as acid, alkali and salt can be measured; With wear-resistant rubber as the lining, it is particularly suitable for measuring the liquid-solid two-phase flow of ore pulp, cement slurry and other liquids with solid particles and large wear, as well as various suspended liquids with fibers and pulp.
3) Electromagnetic flowmeter is a volume flow measurement instrument. In the measurement process, it is not affected by the temperature, viscosity, density and conductivity (within a certain range) of the measured medium. Therefore, the electromagnetic flowmeter can be used to measure the flow of other conductive liquids only after being calibrated by water.
4) The output of the electromagnetic flowmeter is only proportional to the average velocity of the measured medium, and has nothing to do with the flow state (laminar flow or turbulence) under symmetrical distribution. Therefore, the measuring range of electromagnetic flowmeter is extremely wide, and its measuring range can reach 100:1, and some even reach the operable flow range of 1000:1.
5) The electromagnetic flowmeter has no mechanical inertia and is sensitive. It can measure the instantaneous pulsating flow and the flow in both positive and negative directions.
